Victor Wembanyama's Jersey From His NBA Debut Sells for $762,000 at Auction

Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama’s hype is already making a splash in the memorabilia marketplace.

A game-worn Wembanyama jersey sold on Tuesday for a staggering $762,000 fee at Sotheby’s auction block, according to Darren Rovell of the Action Network.

The jersey, a white Spurs home jersey, was worn by the prized rookie during his NBA debut on Oct. 25 against the Mavericks

Experts predicted the game-worn Wembanyama jersey to sell for between $80,000-$120,000. The final sale massively exceeded anticipations, settling over six times that amount.

Clearly, the buyer is betting on Wembanyama’s future in the league, despite the rookie having made just 14 appearances in his young career. The No. 1 pick is one of the most coveted rookies in league history, and he’s made a strong impression through his first month of NBA action, averaging 18.6 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game.

In his debut, a home game at the Frost Bank Center, Wembanyama had 15 points, five rebounds, and two assists across 23 minutes.

The auction for the jersey began last week, with bids reaching as much as $50,000 on the opening day. It didn’t take long for bids to surpass the value predicted by Sotheby experts, with the final sale coming in at more than $750,000.
