Ben Simmons Could Return to Nets Monday Amid Lengthy Injury Absence, per Report

Ben Simmons is nearing a return to the Brooklyn Nets amid a lengthy injury absence, and the 27-year-old could potentially be back in the lineup as early as Monday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Simmons has been dealing with a lower back nerve impingement that has kept him sidelined since Nov. 6. He’s featured in just six games for the Nets this season, but could be back on the court for Brooklyn’s tilt against the Utah Jazz on Monday, Jan. 29.

Simmons had been practicing with the Nets’ G-League affiliate over the weekend as he continued to work his way back from the injury, and it seems he’s progressed enough to where a return is looming.

After not playing at all in the 2021-22 season, during which he was traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to Brooklyn, Simmons featured in 42 games last year. He missed the Nets’ final 24 games of the season while dealing with a back injury.

Across 48 games with the organization over the last two seasons, Simmons has averaged 6.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.

The nerve impingement in his lower back is just the latest in a long list of injury problems Simmons has faced throughout his NBA career, and he’ll be hoping to remain healthy throughout the team’s final 39 games of the season.
