76ers News: Joel Embiid's Historic Streak Comes to End vs. Nuggets

Sixers star sees his 30-point, 10-rebound streak come to end vs. reigning champions.

Over the past few months, one of the biggest stories surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers was the historic streak of Joel Embiid. The reigning MVP had etched his name in the historic books next to all-time greats, but it has now come to an end.

Heading into Tuesday night's matchup with the Denver Nuggets, Embiid had recorded 16-straight games of at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. While he turned in another dominant performance against the defending champions, he fell short of keeping this streak alive.

The big story in this matchup was the battle of All-Star centers. For the fourth consecutive season, Embiid and Nikola Jokic are front and center in the MVP conversation. With a national audience tuned in, the Sixers star shined while leading his team to victory.

Embiid recorded a double-double, just not with rebounds. In 38 minutes of action, he finished with a stat line of 41 points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists. One streak might have ended, but Embiid's run of consecutive 30-point performances rages on.

Embiid's streak lasted almost two months to the day. The last time he didn't record 30 and 10 was back on November 17th in a win over the Atlanta Hawks

While the All-Star center wasn't able to keep his historic run alive, it was still a statement performance for Embiid and the Sixers. They've built up a reputation for only beating down bad teams, but that wasn't the case on Tuesday. Embiid and company brought the energy from the opening tip, and it resulted in a win over one of the NBA's top teams.

Following this statement win on their home floor, the Sixers get to enjoy a couple days off before taking the floor again. They'll be back in action on Friday night as they travel to Orlando to take on Paolo Banchero and the Magic.
