76ers Trade Rumors: Eastern Conference Team Eyeing Veteran Forward

Tobias Harris drawing interest in trade market

When trade possibilities are discussed for the Philadelphia 76ers, it's mainly centered around flipping the pieces acquired in the James Harden trade. However, there are other routes that Daryl Morey could go before the February 8th trade deadline. Recent reports suggest that a key name on the Sixers is starting to draw interest in the trade market.

The 2023-24 season marks the final year of Tobias Harris' $180 million deal he signed in 2019. With an expiring contract, the veteran forward could be considered a trade piece to some. It is worth noting there is no reporting that the Sixers have any plans on moving Harris this season.

During a recent mailbag, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic touched on trade options for the Detroit Pistons. Among the names he mentioned as possible trade targets was Sixers forward Tobias Harris.

"Tobias Harris, who is an unrestricted free agent after this season, is another name the Piston could target sooner rather than later if he becomes available before the NBA's February trade deadline," Edwards wrote.

Harris has previous connections to the Pistons franchise, as he played there from 2015 to 2017. The Sixers veteran has had some of his best performances against Detroit this year. Back in November, he notched 24 points and five rebounds in an eight-point win. Harris followed that up earlier this week by scoring 21 points on 70% shooting from the field.

His three-point shooting has taken a slight dip, but Harris continues to be productive for the Sixers. Through 25 games, he is averaging 16.8 PPG and 6.1 RPG while shooting close to 52% from the field.

During his time with the franchise, Harris has become a leader on and off the floor. Given what he brings from a culture and locker-room standpoint, the Sixers shouldn't be in any rush to move him, even with his contract approaching its end.
