Former 76ers All-Star Ben Simmons Out for Remainder of Season

Ben Simmons to miss remainder of season as he deals with a back injury.

Earlier this week, the Philadelphia 76ers faced off against the Brooklyn Nets without Ben Simmons. The former No. 1 continues to deal with a back injury, and recent developments suggest he is far from healthy.

Shams Charania reported Thursday morning that Simmons is going to miss the remainder of the regular season. He'll be seeing specialists to come up with treatment options for the nerve damage in his lower back.

This back injury has plagued Simmons' career since he left Philly. Over the past three seasons, he has played in just 57 games. The first time this back injury was mentioned was around the time he got traded to the Nets. It resulted in him missing the entire 2022 season after being dealt to Brooklyn for James Harden

The following year, Simmons was able to appear in 42 games. However, he was far from the All-Star talent that many had grown accustomed to seeing. This injury flared up again this season, causing him to miss a majority of the Nets games.

Simmons played in six of the Nets first seven games this year, and then was put on the shelf for months. He made a brief return at the end of January, but was sidelined again in just under a month. The last game he played in came on February 26th against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Before injuries derailed his career, Simmons was an emerging young star as a member of the Sixers. He played in 275 games for the franchise and posted averages of 15.9 PPG, 8.1 RPG, 7.7 APG, and 1.7 SPG.
