James Harden Doesn’t Hold Back Discussing Sixers’ Daryl Morey

James Harden is unhappy with Daryl Morey.

Over the last month, several reports have noted that James Harden’s relationship with Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey was fractured. Harden’s most recent public message confirms that to be true.

"Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” Harden said over the weekend. “Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar, and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”

Just two years ago, nobody could imagine that Harden would no longer be willing to work with Daryl Morey. After all, the two have been close for over a decade, as they spent time working together on the Houston Rockets.

After Morey packed up and left the Rockets and joined the 76ers, Morey attempted to bring Harden to Philly after the ten-time All-Star demanded a trade. The Rockets instead sent Harden to join the Brooklyn Nets for the 2020-2021 season and beyond.

Although Morey and the Sixers didn’t land Harden when they first tried, a second attempt was successful during the 2021-2022 season. After Harden joined the Sixers midway through the season two years ago, he re-signed with the organization on a two-year deal.

The initial belief was that Harden would take a pay cut for the Sixers in hopes that his season of sacrifice would lead to a significant long-term contract extension with the 76ers. As we know now, Harden’s master plan didn’t have the results he imagined.

The Rockets were expected to make an offer to Harden in free agency, but they turned their attention to Fred VanVleet. It seemed Harden hoped to land a big offer from the Sixers still, but the star guard picked up his player option for next season before reaching free agency.

Harden wished to be traded when he accepted the option. So far, the Sixers couldn’t find a deal that’s worth making at this time. Over the weekend, a report suggested the Sixers plan to close shop on Harden trade discussions and will welcome him to training camp. Not long after, it was reported that Harden didn’t plan to attend camp.

Considering Harden’s latest public message regarding the situation, it seems the All-Star guard means it when he says he’s finished playing for the Sixers.
