Kyle Lowry Announces He’s ‘Coming Home’ to 76ers With Video

Kyle Lowry is headed to the Sixers.

After a three-season stint with the Miami Heat, Kyle Lowry was included in a trade that sent him packing to join the Charlotte Hornets. After a couple of weeks of discussions, there was a mutual decision for Lowry and the Hornets to reach a buyout.

On Saturday night, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Lowry was set to become a free agent. However, his next destination was quickly decided.

Lowry was headed home.

Shortly after it became clear that Lowry was set to join the Philadelphia 76ers, his agency, Priority Sports, released a video dedicated to the decision.

It seems Lowry’s return to Philadelphia has been a long time coming. As the Sixers reportedly pursued the veteran guard in past seasons, he finally landed with the team at 37 years old.

Joining the Sixers creates several reunions for Lowry this season. Back in 2009, the veteran guard played for the Houston Rockets after Daryl Morey traded with the Memphis Grizzlies for him at the time. After Lowry spent three full seasons playing for Morey’s Rockets, he joined the Toronto Raptors ahead of the 2012-2013 season.

Current 76ers head coach Nick Nurse was an assistant in Toronto from 2013 to 2018. Ahead of the 2018-2019 season, he was promoted to head coach. Together, Nurse and Lowry won their first NBA Championship in that same year.

Following the 2020-2021 season, Lowry parted ways with the Raptors and joined the Miami Heat. Nurse would stay in Toronto through the end of the 2022-2023 season before parting ways and finding a new home in Philadelphia with the Sixers.

Now, the Philadelphia native Lowry makes his way back to play for his hometown team in hopes of giving them the boost they need to find success in 2024.
