76ers Rival Rumors: Nets Could Flip Piece From Kyrie Irving Trade

In this story:
The Dallas Mavericks have won the Kyrie Irving sweepstakes. After the All-Star guard requested a trade last week, Brooklyn was shocked to find out they would have to seek out trades for the star once again after doing it once already over the summer.
The Nets repaired their issues with Irving over the summer and benefitted from him picking up his contract option for the 2022-2023 season. Unfortunately, an unfavorable contract extension in the eyes of Irving left the Nets forced to find a trade.
Several teams inquired, including the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Mavericks. Dallas won with their deal, which included Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and several draft picks.
While a reunion between Dinwiddie and the Nets makes sense, considering Brooklyn will need a veteran ball-handler to help make up for the loss of Irving, it seems the Nets could be open to flipping Dinwiddie ahead of Thursday’s deadline, according to Marc Stein.
"Updating tonight’s NBA blockbuster trade coverage: As the Nets pursue additional deals before Thursday’s 3 PM ET trade buzzer, league sources say they have not ruled out potentially moving Spencer Dinwiddie elsewhere."
The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t have many thoughts on the blockbuster trade on Sunday night as they were focused on the results of the matchup versus the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
Whether they are focusing on it or not, the Nets’ next move could have an impact on the Eastern Conference. While Brooklyn’s trade benefits the future of the Nets as the draft compensation was decent, the veterans that came back in return don’t possess the same qualities as the star they shipped out.
Brooklyn will likely remain playoff contenders in the Eastern Conference, but with another trick up their sleeve potentially, they could look much different by the end of the week — for better or for worse.
