76ers Trade Former First-Round Pick to Boston Celtics

In this story:
As the NBA trade deadline closes out, the Philadelphia 76ers are parting ways with their former first-round pick, Jaden Springer.
A source confirmed on Thursday that the Sixers are sending Springer to the Boston Celtics. In exchange, Philly will receive a second-round pick.
Springer joined the Sixers in 2021 as their first-round draft selection out of Tennessee. He was the 28th pick coming off his freshman season.
Since joining the Sixers, Springer has struggled to carve out a consistent role. In his first two seasons under Doc Rivers, the young guard split time between the Sixers and their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
With the main roster, Springer appeared in 18 games through his sophomore effort. He averaged 2.4 points per game during that stretch.
Heading into year three, Springer hoped for an increased role under new head coach Nick Nurse. As a standout defensive prospect, Springer fit the Sixers’ new system under Nurse. However, he struggled to collect consistent minutes still.
This season, Springer appeared in 32 games for the Sixers. Averaging 12 minutes on the court, he put up four points per game, along with two rebounds and one assist. From the field, he struggled by shooting just 39 percent. From deep, Springer hit on 22 percent of his threes.
The young guard will get a fresh start out in Boston. Meanwhile, the Sixers trim another out-of-the-rotation player off the roster while picking up a second-rounder.
