A Shocking Statistic Revealed After Joel Embiid's Showing vs. Bulls

In this story:
At this point in the 2023-2024 NBA season, it’s become clear that Joel Embiid is crafting another MVP campaign. As December has been a strong month for the reigning MVP, Embiid continues to put up eye-popping numbers as we close out 2023.
Early on in December, Embiid missed consecutive games. After sitting out against the Boston Celtics due to an illness, Embiid returned to the floor after a five-day break with his most prominent scoring performance of the season.
By draining 66 percent of his shots from the field against the Washington Wizards, Embiid put up a season-high 50 points on December 6. From then on, he’s scored at least 34 points in each of his next six games.
In the Sixers’ Monday night matchup against the Chicago Bulls, Embiid produced a game-high 40 points. Shockingly, it was his fourth game scoring at least 40 points in December alone.
With that accomplishment, Embiid now holds the same amount of 40-point-plus outings as NBA stars Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, and Jayson Tatum combined throughout the entire season, putting the Sixers big man’s recent dominance into perspective.

Since the start of December, Embiid has appeared in all six of Philadelphia’s games heading into Monday night’s game. He was shooting an efficient 62 percent from the field and has drained 41 percent of his shots from beyond the arc while averaging 40 points per game. The Sixers hadn’t lost a game this month until the Bulls came to town on Monday.
Despite Chicago finding success over the Sixers, they still had a tough time slowing down Embiid’s offensive attack. As the big man put up 28 shots from the field, Embiid found success on 15 of them and also collected eight points off nine free throws.
Embiid wrapped up the night with 40 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and two blocked shots. Another dominant scoring outing keeps Embiid on the path to getting crowned the league’s scoring champion for the third straight season.
