Nobody knew what to expect out of the Philadelphia 76ers in their Friday night matchup against the Atlanta Hawks

Considering the Sixers were down six players, with five of them being starters and another being a key rotational reserve, the Hawks were heavy favorites over Philadelphia.

Maybe they overlooked the undermanned Sixers. Or, perhaps, Philadelphia’s motivated team of reserves just played that well.

Shooting 50 percent from the field overall and knocking down 11 of their 22 threes, the Sixers managed not only to form a comeback against the Hawks on Friday to force overtime, but they finished the job in the extra period.

Down by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Sixers were able to outscore Atlanta by ten points in the final two quarters to tie the game up at 119. From there on, the Sixers took control of the matchup during the extra five minutes.

The Sixers put the Hawks away with a 136-131 victory. Seven players notched double-digits, including Danuel House Jr., Shake Milton, Jaden Springer, Paul Reed, Jalen McDaniels, Georges Niang, and Montrezl Harrell. Milton, Harrell, and McDaniels each produced double-doubles.

Although the Sixers didn’t need to win Friday’s game, the team was motivated and excited to do so. After an unlikely victory, Philly fans had a field day on Twitter reacting to the matchup.
