While NBA superstars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant have already verbally committed to join Team USA’s basketball squad for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, one elite player who has yet to throw his name in the hat is Milwaukee Bucks ace Damian Lillard. However, the seven-time All-Star recently shared in an interview with Yahoo Sports’ Vincent Goodwill that a stint with Team USA next year is something he’s interested in.

Still thinking about it

Lillard has a lot on his mind right now. In between preparing for the upcoming season with his new team, he’s also dealing with some personal turmoil, having recently filed for divorce from his wife, Kay'La. Another Olympics stint may also be in the offing for the former Weber State star.

“I would definitely be interested. I don't know if I can say right now to do something that I would absolutely do,” Lillard said.

Lillard said the only downside to committing to playing for Team USA is the amount of time players need to commit to the cause.

“I've had the experience, and it's just, you know, it's a very time-consuming thing,” Lillard added.

Lillard was part of the Team USA squad that won the gold medal in the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan. He averaged 11.2 points and 3.2 assists per game.

Powerhouse squad

Team USA is shaping up to be one powerhouse squad. The team’s recent fourth-place finish in the 2023 FIBA World Cup spurred even more interest in the team. The most recent superstar to express his commitment is the reigning NBA MVP, Joel Embiid. The 76ers star could have elected to play for either Cameroon or France, but in the end, he selected Team USA.

A team with LeBron, Steph, KD, Anthony Davis, Devin Booker, Jayson Tatum, and Embiid will surely dominate the Paris games. With a mix of both veteran and young players, Team USA looks poised to continue its Olympic dominance for years to come.
