In this story:

Milwaukee Bucks big man Brook Lopez has been slapped with a $25,000 fine for his role in the physical altercation that occurred late in the game between the Bucks and the Sacramento Kings earlier this week. The Kings’ Trey Lyles, on the other hand, was hit with a one-game suspension without pay.

Late-game un-pleasantries

The unfortunate incident happened with 15.4 seconds remaining in the Bucks’ 133-124 win over the Kings earlier this week. The Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo had the ball and dribbled it up the floor when he swerved in front of Lyles. The Kings forward took exception and gave up a foul and a push in the back for good measure. Lopez saw this unfold and quickly came to Giannis’ defense. This was when tempers flared as the two players got entangled while their teammates and coaches tried to keep the situation from escalating further.

Defending Giannis

Afterward, Lopez and his Bucks teammates said they weren’t going to stand for anyone trying to take advantage of their star player. Brook Lopez had this to say about the incident:

“So, if anyone is going to respond with BS or cheap stuff like that, I'm not going to go out of my way to get violent or do anything wrong, but I'm just going to be there to protect my guy and let whoever it is know that I have his back and that's not going to fly,” said Lopez.

Giannis added that he appreciated Lopez’s actions and would gladly reimburse him for whatever penalties he’d incur as a result of the incident.
