Those who have climbed the mountain and reached the peak of the NBA describe the feeling of winning an NBA title as euphoric. There are some, though, like Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokoumpo, who take the description even further, calling the moment he and the Bucks won it all in 2021 “better than getting intimate.”

First championship

The road Giannis and the Bucks took toward winning the 2021 championship was hardly a walk in the park. The Greek Freak suffered a knee injury in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks, which many feared would end his playoff run.

However, Giannis miraculously missed just two games and returned to play in the NBA Finals against the Phoenix Suns. The Bucks eventually put down the Suns, with Giannis putting on an epic performance in the title-clinching Game 6, where he had 50 points, 14 rebounds and 5 blocks en route to being named the Finals MVP. In an interview with The Athletic, Giannis recalled the feeling of that exact moment but hesitated to truly express what he had on his mind.

“Man, that feeling. That feeling was a great feeling. That feeling was one of the best feelings I’ve had, and I’m not even going to say what I’m thinking because it’s probably gonna go viral,” said Giannis.

However, when prodded further, Giannis gave in, saying, “I’m sorry, but it’s better than getting intimate. You know what I mean?”

Another title

For someone as competitive as Giannis, one will never be enough. This season, he has helped put the Bucks in the right position to contend for another NBA championship. With a deep roster filled with battle-tested veterans, the Bucks may be the odds-on favorite to win it all this season.

“(The championship) was the greatest feeling in my life, and I definitely want to repeat that feeling. And I want to do it again with my teammates, and I want us to be the last team standing. I want for those two, three months of the summer to feel like I’m the best player in the world, where our team has won the whole thing and I was the last guy standing.”
