Derrick Rose’s time with the New York Knicks appears to be done after the team declined his $15.6 million option, thereby making the former league MVP a free agent this offseason. And while the once-super athletic guard is not the player he once was when he won the coveted MVP trophy back in 2011, he remains a solid guard with veteran chops who can provide some scoring punch once called upon.

One team that has emerged as a potential landing spot for Rose is the Milwaukee Bucks. With the squad looking to bounce back after flaming out from the first round in the playoffs, the Bucks are on the lookout for veteran talent to bolster their chances of making a deep playoff run next season. Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells has pointed out the Bucks as a potential landing spot for Rose.

Move that makes sense

The Bucks already showed interest when they inquired about the veteran playmaker at the trade deadline. However, that did not materialize, and they ended up pursuing and eventually acquiring Jae Crowder. With this opportunity opening up, the Bucks would do well to revisit their interest in Rose and bring him in to serve as a deadly off-the-bench scorer.

“If there's an early favorite to sign Rose, the Milwaukee Bucks make a lot of sense. They had at least some interest in him leading up to the trade deadline in February, according to longtime NBA insider Marc Stein, but no deal came together at the time,” wrote Wells.

Need for a backup playmaker

Jevon Carter has yet to decide on his player option for next season. And based on his stellar play this season, he may be looking for a substantial salary bump. And so, acquiring a player with Rose’s experience and scoring ability could be a wise investment for the Bucks. Furthermore, Rose could provide quality backup minutes at the point guard position in the event that Carter decides to move on.

“Adding Rose into that mix wouldn't be a bad move for a Bucks team that seems unlikely to make any big moves this summer, especially if they are able to re-sign Khris Middleton after he declined his $40.4 million player option for next season,” Wells added.
