The Milwaukee Bucks tightened their grip on the second spot in the Eastern Conference standings after they handled the Charlotte Hornets, 124-115, on Tuesday night.

Steady win

Giannis Antetokounmpo finished with 34 points, 18 rebounds, and four assists as the Bucks padded their winning streak to five and moved up to 34-17 in the season.

Milwaukee moved to just two games behind the Eastern Conference leaders Boston Celtics, who are 36-15. Trailing the Bucks are the 32-17 Philadelphia Sixers.

Khris Middleton had his best game since returning from an 18-game absence, tallying 18 points in 20 minutes of action. Jrue Holiday added 15 points, Grayson Allen had 12, and Wesley Matthews donated 11.

Revenge for the embarrassing loss in the previous meeting

In keeping their winning streak alive, the Bucks avenged their stunning 108-139 loss to the same Charlotte squad last January 7th. Thus, Milwaukee won its season series with Charlotte after prevailing in their first meeting on December 4th, 105-96.

The Hornets came into the match with a dismal 15-36 record, but the Bucks still went through some anxious moments before putting the visiting team away. Charlotte went toe to toe with the Bucks early in the game, even forging a 64-all standoff at the half.

With the Hornets breathing down their necks, Middleton provided the Bucks a huge spark in the third, where he unloaded 11 of his total output. Led by Middleton, Milwaukee outscored Charlotte in the third, 33-26. The Bucks then led by as many as 17 points in the fourth, preventing the Hornets from scoring another upset.

LaMelo Ball led the Hornets with 27 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
