The Chicago Bulls' decision-makers have a lot of roster gymnastics to do. After going all in on a "Big 3" of DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Nikola Vucevic in 2021, the gamble has just a first-round exit in 2022 to show for it. And after missing the NBA Playoffs this season, the Bulls now have some tough roster decisions to make with very little wiggle room.

Should they retain Vooch and head to the new season later this year with essentially the same core that barely made it to the NBA Play-in Tournament? Should they trade away their veterans and start anew? Or should they shake the team up by replacing a few of their pieces?

NBA insider says DeMar has the most support amongst the Big 3

Answering a mock trade deal that would send DeRozan to the Knicks in exchange for Evan Fournier, Isaiah Hartenstein, and Quentin Grimes, longtime Bulls insider Sam Smith says that while that transaction seems fair, the Bulls may have a hard time letting go of Deebo, who has blossomed late in his career with the team, and has made the All-Star squad two years in a row.

"But actually, of the three main Bulls guys, I think there's the most support internally for DeRozan," wrote Smith.

Uncertain future

Smith, though, added that while the Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations, Arturas Karnisovas, has all but rebuffed a complete teardown, there is still the fact that the Bulls must consider their future, which means nobody on the Bulls roster is untouchable. The Bulls find themselves in uncertain times, and with the draft coming up later this month, it will certainly be a time of change for the franchise.

No matter what happens over the next couple of months, one thing is clear: the Bulls need to make sure they're building their team around players that can help them in both the present and future. With Deebo's contract expiring next season, the Bulls will need to decide if he is an important building block for them or someone that should be moved in order to build a stronger foundation.
