Michael Jordan's "Dynasty Collection" is scheduled for auction and expected to fetch $10 million

Fans of Michael Jordan and his memorabilia willing to pay a pretty penny for a piece of history may want to mark their calendars for February 2. That's when the highly anticipated auction of Jordan's "Dynasty Collection" is set to take place, with experts predicting it will fetch a whopping $10 million.

What is the “Dynasty Collection?”

According to Sotheby’s, the auction house handling the sale, this set of sneakers “represents the most valuable and significant collection of Air Jordan sneakers ever brought to market.” The set comprises six Air Jordan sneakers, each worn by Jordan in the title-clinching games of his highly decorated career.

“The set consists of an Air Jordan VI (1991), Air Jordan VII (1992), Air Jordan VIII (1993), Air Jordan XI (1996), Air Jordan XII (1997), and Air Jordan XIV (1998),” the Sotheby’s listing read.

The “Dynasty Collection” will be the highlight of the live auction entitled “The One,” which will feature “exceptional objects that exemplify human ingenuity, achievement, and excellence.”

The “Holy Grail”

According to Brahm Wachter, head of modern collectibles at Sotheby’s, the Dynastic Collection is considered the “Holy Grail” of sneaker collections.

“The Dynasty Collection is the sole-defining ‘holy grail’ of sneaker collecting, checking all of the boxes that a collector could possibly want,” Wachter said.

“Though the upcoming sale will feature 15 historically significant lots spanning eras from the 13th century to the present, much of the attention will land on the set of Jordan footwear, which carries quite a backstory.”

The shoes were given by His Airness to former Bulls PR executive Tim Hallam. Jordan removed the shoes from his feet after coming off the floor, signed them, and handed them to Hallam.

The shoes were sold to a private collector and displayed during the 2022 National Sports Collectors Convention in New Jersey 2022. The sneaker set was also toured around the world, making stops in New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, and Singapore.

2023. It's Jordan Year.
