Cavaliers Tie Season-High For Three Pointers In A Game, During Blowout Win Over Kings

Max Strus sparked a three-point barrage by the Cavaliers, knocking down a team-high six on a night where Cleveland shot 56-percent from beyond the arc and tied their season-high in three pointers made.

Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse was a thunderstorm of three-points on Monday night, in the Cavaliers 136-110 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Cleveland knocked down 23 shots from long range on Monday night, matching its season-high for three pointers in a game, which came against the Utah Jazz back on Dec. 20. That mark is also two three-pointers shy of the franchise record of 25 in game, which came back in 2017.

Leading the way, Max Strus – the Cavs big offseason acquisition – who shot six-of-ten from beyond the arc. It's the most threes he's made in a game in a little over a month, when he knocked down the same number against Washington on Jan. 3. He came up one shy of his season-high of seven, a figure he reached in his Cavaliers debut back on Oct. 25.

On the night Donovan Mitchell was named as a participant in the NBA's three-point shooting contest for All-Star Weekend, he pumped in five of his own from beyond the arc, shooting 45-percent from distance. Those five threes were just part of the story for Mitchell though, who poured in 29 points in total. It was the eighth straight game Mitchell has eclipsed 20-plus points in a game.

Plenty of others contributed to Cleveland's three-point barrage as Caris LeVert and Sam Merrill each knocked down three of their four attempts from three. The trio of Darius Garland, Issac Okoro and Dean Wade each added two a piece as well.

Against a King team that ranks third in the league in three-point attempts and makes per game, the Cavs wound up making six more than their foe, while taking three less on the night. It was Strus who really set the tone early, knocking down his first three to get the Cavs on the board just over a minute into the game. He added two more threes as the quarter continued, going three-for-three from the floor to start the game.

While Strus got the effort started, it was Merrill putting the finishing touches on the shooting outburst, connecting on the team's 23 three with about 2:30 to go in the fourth quarter after J.B. Bickerstaff had called off the dogs.

Overall, the Wine and Gold finished the night shooting a whopping 58-percent from the floor and 56.1-percent from three. It was their second highest three-point percentage in a game this season. 136 points is also the second most the team has scored this season.
