The Atlanta Hawks acquired veteran point guard Jeremy Lin from the Brooklyn Nets this summer and the eight-year pro is excited to mentor and play with rookie Trae Young.

The Hawks traded Dennis Schroder to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of the Carmelo Anthony trade, so Atlanta's backcourt will now feature Lin and Young.

Lin, who only played in one game this past season with the Nets after suffering a ruptured patellar tendon on opening night, has already talked to Young and is looking forward to coexisting with him.

“I think I can help (Young) a lot and share my experience playing in the NBA with him," Lin told Michael Scotto of The Athletic. "I know the Hawks plan to use us on the court together. I had played for the Rockets, Lakers and Hornets that put two point guards on the court simultaneously, so I know Trae and I could play very fast. Coach Lloyd Pierce, one of the (former) coaches for the Warriors, was also my coach, so I have talked to him already. I’m really excited, about the upcoming season, it’s going to be fun.”

The Hawks will pay Lin $12.5 million in 2018-19. The 29-year-old averaged 14.5 points and 5.1 assists per game in 2016-17 for the Nets and will become an unrestricted free-agent in the summer of 2019.

Young believes Lin will be great for his development.

“I think we’ll work really well together," Young told Scotto. "This is a rebuilding team, and we’re going to try some things. Some are going to work, some aren’t, so we’re just going to work together and do whatever we can to turn this franchise around.”
