Report: Pelicans were blindsided by Rondo signing with Lakers

The New Orleans Pelicans were blindsided when Rajon Rondo signed a one-year, $9 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to a report from Bourbon Street Shots.
The Pelicans were working to re-sign Rondo on a two-year deal. Rondo reportedly gave the Pelicans five minutes to make a decision after the guard told them about the Lakers deal.

In 65 regular season games this past season, Rondo averaged 8.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 8.2 assists, shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.
During the playoffs, Rondo took his game to another level. He posted 10.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 12.2 assists per game and helped the Pelicans sweep the Portland Trail Blazers in the first-round.
The Pelicans wanted to bring Rondo back, as the organization loved what he did for the development of star Anthony Davis and combo guard Jrue Holiday.
New Orleans signed Elfrid Payton and he will replace Rondo as the team's starting point guard.
