ESPN's Dave McMenamin shared a report on television earlier this afternoon that portrayed Russell Westbrook as a negative locker room presence with the Los Angeles Lakers.

McMenamin broke down the Westbrook to the Utah Jazz trade, saying, "This was the time to do it. Russell Westbrook was not going to be part of this team after the summer when his contract expired, and also when his contract came off the books the Lakers would have less money to deal with in the free agency period this summer."

In addition to this analysis, McMenamin added, "You get younger, you got shooting, you got switchable defenders, and as one source told me, you remove a vampire from the locker room. That meaning, a vampire sucks the blood out of the locker room. Russell Westbrook moves on."

The report was shared on ESPN's NBA Instagram account, and multiple current and former NBA players came to Westbrook's defense. Cleveland Cavaliers star Donovan Mitchell commented, "Stop it." Former Lakers forward Carmelo Anthony said, "Who is the source?" Clippers forward Robert Covington commented three ear emojis, and former NBA player Quentin Richardson added, "A source!! Knock it off and name that source or don't tell me what they said!!"

It is no secret that LeBron James and the Lakers had been looking to move Westbrook, but there had not been many indications that he was not well liked within the locker room. With several current and former players coming to Westbrook's defense, it is clear that people around the league do not like his name and reputation being tarnished in this way.
