Celtics Get Honest About Failed Brogdon Trade With Clippers

The Boston Celtics were initially set to trade Malcolm Brogdon to the LA Clippers in their three-team deal that acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards. That initial deal fell apart when the Clippers reportedly had concerns about Brogdon's health, which led to the Memphis Grizzlies jumping in as the third team, acquiring Marcus Smart instead of Brogdon.

Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens recently addressed this development, saying, "Malcolm is really important. That was tough. He certainly doesn't deserve that, and I feel for him. We've talked, obviously, since then. There are a lot of narratives out there because of that, that certainly are inaccurate."

Stevens seemed to be referring to some of the injury narratives about that development, and how some believed Boston was trying to pass Brogdon off on the Clippers, knowing he was significantly injured. As Stevens added, Brogdon is going through a 4-8 week rest and rehab period right now, and is expected to be back right at the start of the season.

It will be interesting to see how this situation develops, but it seems as if the Celtics are comfortable keeping Brodgon, and expect him to be ready for the start of next season. As for the Clippers, they of course attempted to deal Marcus Morris and Amir Coffey in that trade, and face a similar situation to Boston where they now have to handle a scenario where a player knows they were nearly dealt.
