Knicks Shut Down Massive Trade With Clippers

In this story:
During a recent episode of the Bart & Hahn podcast, Alan Hahn revealed some insight on the reported trade discussions between the LA Clippers and New York Knicks surrounding Paul George.
"They had a chance to get Paul George," Hahn said of the Knicks. "They said it was too expensive, they don't want to do it. They've already backed outta that. They talked to the Clippers, the Clippers gave what it would cost, then Paul George said 'But I want an extension.' And they said 'We're not doing that.' And they walked away. So Paul George… as far as now goes, it's off the table."

There have been a lot of reports this summer about the Clippers exploring the trade market for George, but it sounds as if teams may be hesitant to part with a significant package for a player they'd have to quickly extend long-term. George is still an All-Star player, but his health issues over the last several seasons could make teams unwilling to offer him a long-term extension at what would be a very high annual value.
For the Clippers, they are comfortable entering next season with both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, and that is looking like the most probable outcome. What develops in extension talks with those two players is still unknown, but for now it seems likely that the Clippers will begin next season with their two stars.
