Major Paul George to Miami Heat Trade Idea

Does this trade make sense for the LA Clippers and Miami Heat?

In a recent article, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea between the LA Clippers and Miami Heat that centers around Paul George. The entire trade proposal looked like this:

Clippers receive: Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, 2027 first-round pick, 2029 first-round pick, and a 2028 first-round pick swap

Heat receive: Paul George

As Buckley notes, this deal of course assumes the Heat do not trade for Damian Lillard, since this is most of what they could offer for him. With that being said, for the same reason the Trail Blazers are not currently willing to accept Miami's offer for Lillard, the Clippers would not accept this offer for George.

While Herro is a nice player, and Robinson is a knock-down shooter, those two players would almost certainly not move the Clippers to deal George, even with the collection of draft choices. Where they are in their timeline right now, with veterans like Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook, along with a new arena coming next season, the Clippers are not in a position to deal George for a package like this.

Dealing George at all would be a tough sell at this juncture for the Clippers, because while his contract situation and injury concerns led some to believe he could be on the market this summer, the team re-signing Westbrook, inquiring about a James Harden trade, and publicly committing to their current star duo, indicates they intend to make at least one last effort to win it all with this core.
