Former NBA Star Drops Controversial Victor Wembanyama vs. Chet Holmgren Take
The Rookie of the Year race is between Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs and Chet Holmgren of the OKC Thunder. The two sensational rookies have been compared to each other for a while, as they are both big men with skills that most players their size do not have.
During a recent episode of Gil's Arena, former NBA star and Memphis Grizzlies guard Gilbert Arenas shared a controversial take on Wembanyama vs. Holmgren, saying the two are not even on the same planet right now.
"At 21 we see what Chet looks like," Arenas said. "What the f--k is [Wembanyama] going to look like at 21? That's who you're going to judge Chet against. You're judging him against an older player now at the same age. When Wemby gets to 21, who is he gonna be? Is he gonna be averaging 17 and 10? Or is he gonna be averaging about 25-26 and 12? There's your factor... It's not even gonna be a comparison... They’re not even on the same planet right now. We are just judging it because they’re both rookies. We have to use age as a factor. One is in the NBA with all this pressure and the other one was getting into college."
This has been a controversial take on social media, but Arenas does make a strong point about the level Wembanyama can reach when he gets to Holmgren's age.
