NBA Rookie Reveals Advice from Ja Morant and Other Stars

In this story:

Speaking with Jordan Richard of Swish Cultures, Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Emoni Bates revealed which NBA players he has been receiving advice from. Bates mentioned Donovan Mitchell, Ja Morant, Dejounte Murray, Miles Bridges, Carmelo Anthony, and Kevin Durant as some of the players he knows and has received advice from.

On the advice he has received from these players, Bates said, "They all just tell me stay in the gym, just keep working. For me to have those type of guys to talk to and reach out to for help, it means a lot to me."

Bates has been a Summer League standout, making the All-Summer League second team with his performance the last week. The Cavaliers were excited to select Bates when they did, drafting him 49th overall in the 2023 Draft. With a lot of upside, particularly on the offensive end, Bates is an exciting prospect that the Cavaliers are looking forward to developing.

With mentors like Morant, Durant, Mitchell, and other NBA stars, Bates certainly has a great group of players giving him advice. This generation of NBA stars is always looking to impact the next generation, so it was cool to hear Bates explain which NBA players have already connected with him on that level.

Set to play in the Summer League championship game on Monday, Bates and his Cavaliers will be looking to stay undefeated when they face the also unbeaten Houston Rockets.
