BREAKING: Grizzlies Starter Out For Season With Injury

The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Sunday morning that starting center Steven Adams will miss the entire 2023-24 season after non-operative rehabilitation did not resolve his knee issues. The team’s official statement read the following:

"The Memphis Grizzlies today provided the following medical update: Grizzlies Center Steven Adams will undergo season-ending surgery on his right posterior cruciate ligament, after non-operative rehabilitation did not resolve ongoing knee instability. Adams is expected to make a full recovery ahead of next season."

This is a massive blow for the Grizzlies, who were not the same team last season once Adams went down. The starting center was a stabilizing force for them defensively while also being a unique weapon offensively with his screening and passing. The team had been talking about ways to get him even more involved offensively this season, but he is now out for the year.

Already thin in the front court, this news puts a lot of pressure on Jaren Jackson Jr. to do even more than he did a year ago. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year is of course capable of handling a lot on that end, but the team will need him to stay out of foul trouble now more than ever without Adams to hold down the paint alongside him.

This is very tough news for Adams and the Grizzlies, as everyone now hopes the starting center can return to the form he had prior to this injury when he was such a key piece to what Memphis was doing.
