Jimmy Butler's Status vs. Grizzlies Revealed

After being without Jimmy Butler, Caleb Martin, Nikola Jovic, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Josh Richardson, Kevin Love, Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, Bam Adebayo, and R.J. Hampton in their last preseason game, the Miami Heat will remain very shorthanded vs. the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday night. It was announced by Will Guillory of The Athletic that Butler, Martin, Jaquez, Jovic, Hampton, Richardson, and Dru Smith are all out for this game.

Star players often sit out one or two preseason games each year, as it helps them ramp up slowly while also giving younger players an opportunity to show their abilities. That said, this doesn't seem like traditional rest for Butler, who is dealing with a dental procedure. The star forward has yet to play in a game since the NBA Finals loss to the Denver Nuggets in June.

After another NBA Finals run, the Heat did not have a very long offseason. While they came up short against the Denver Nuggets, it was still an impressive run for Miami, who once again defied the odds against Eastern Conference teams they were heavy underdogs against.

It was an interesting summer for Miami after they missed out on some of the top trade targets they were pursuing, but this is still a solid team that should be right back in the mix in the Eastern Conference this season.
