In this story:

The Memphis Grizzlies are winless to start the NBA season, dropping their first two games to the New Orleans Pelicans and Denver Nuggets. While Memphis knew it would be tough without Ja Morant for the first 25 games, they did not know they would also be without Steven Adams for the entire season. Between Morant, Adams, and other injury absences Memphis is dealing with, the team is definitely in a tough spot to start the year.

During a recent appearance on NBA Today, ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins revealed his brutally honestly thoughts on the Grizzlies, saying their best case scenario this season is the play-in tournament. Perkins said he felt this way even prior to the Steven Adams news, which may be surprising to some. That said, the Grizzlies do have a very difficult road ahead, and the Western Conference leaves little margin for error.

While two regular season games are certainly not worth sounding an alarm bell over, Perkins’ concerns with the Grizzlies were shared prior to these losses. Only time will tell if the former NBA champion is right about this Memphis group, but there definitely are some reasons for concern about their ability to survive the first 25 games of this season without falling too far down in the Western Conference standings.

For now, the Grizzlies will look to stay afloat while shorthanded.
