Kyle Lowry is set to make his return to Miami tonight when the Miami Heat host the Philadelphia 76ers.

Lowry played three seasons with the Heat before being traded along with a first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier. After he was waived by the Hornets, he signed with the 76ers two days later and has played a key role for the team over the past two months.

Lowry has averaged 8.5 points and 4.7 assists while shooting 43.7 percent from the field and just shy of 40 percent from three.

Lowry has even been praised for his work off the floor since joining the 76ers.

“I mean, it’s a huge plus because he’s a great leader,” teammate Paul Reed said of Lowry. “He leads. Not just me, but he leads everybody on the team and guiding everybody to do the right thing. He’s like a coach for real.”

Lowry won the 2019 NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors. The Heat initially acquired Lowry after failing to win a game in the 2021 playoffs with the thought that Lowry’s leadership and experience would help the team get over the hump.

His tenure with the Heat included team success, but less individual success than the team initially imagined. The Heat made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022 and NBA Finals in 2023 with Lowry on the roster. Lowry showed personel decline with the team though, ultimately leading to his departure back in January.

Lowry has appeared in 19 games since joining the 76ers. He has provided consistent minutes during an injury-riddled part of the team’s season. Joel Embiid made his return to the starting lineup in the 76ers Tuesday win against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Lowry still provided over 27 minutes of floortime, proving his worth to the 76ers.

Lowry has shown his value with the 76ers after failing to do so in the first half of the season with the Heat.
