Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro did not play in Wednesday's home preseason finale against the Brooklyn Nets but he is expected ready when things get real next week.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra all but said Herro will play next week in the season opener against the Detroit Pistons. He is dealing with a thigh injury

" He's day to day," Spoelstra said. "He'll be ready. "It's looking like that."

It will mark Herro's first signification action since against the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference first round playoffs. He missed the remainder of the postseason because of a broken right hand. Without Herro, the Heat still made the NBA Finals. Their miraculous run ended by losing to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in six games.

It also marks Herro's return after a difficult offseason. He spent most of the last three month hearing about speculation of him being involved in the trade for Damian Lillard.

Lillard landed with the Bucks, giving Herro another chance to join a possible Heat run to the Finals. He was on the team when they made a surprise in 2020 during the bubble season, losing to LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers in six games.

Herro is entering his fifth season after being chosen No. 13 out of Kentucky.
