Eastern Conference Recaps, May 3: Boston Celtics Even Series Against Philadelphia 76ers Despite MVP Joel Embiid's Return

The Boston Celtics weren't themselves in Game 1 of their series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
After a humbling defeat, the Celtics had a convincing 121-87 victory Wednesday in Game 2, evening the Eastern Conference semifinals at 1. Jaylen Brown led the way with 25 points while Malcolm Brogdon added 23. The Celtics cruised despite leading scorer Jayson Tatum finishing with just seven points after getting into early foul trouble.
“I think we've just got to take more pride in ourselves. That's it," Brown said. “I just feel like we underperformed last game. We wanted to come out and play to the best of our ability. And that's what we did.”
The Sixers loss spoiled the return of league MVP Joel Embiid, who had 15 points in his first action since April 20. He was dealing with a knee injury.
“I felt pretty good to play and I felt like I could help the team,” Embiid said. "I feel like I just got this out the way. Disappointed by the loss. But that's a step toward getting back to myself.”
