Former Miami Heat Player James Jones Having Active Offseason As Phoenix Suns General Manager

In this story:
This summer is Phoenix Suns' general manager James Jones’ most active offseason.
It is also arguably the most productive.
On Sunday, Jones made multiple acquisitions to improve their championship aspirations. The Suns traded guard Cameron Payne to the San Antonio Spurs for a future second-round pick. They also plan to sign former Orlando Magic center Bol Bol to a one-year deal while acquiring three second-round picks for a first-round pick swap in 2026.
Trading Payne provides a clear path for defensive guard Jordan Goodwin to take over the backup point guard role. Bol has potential to become a solid backup to former No. 1 pick Deandre Ayton.
These moves come on the heels of a the blockbuster deal that sent Chris Paul to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Bradley Beal. Jones has proven a solid executive since playing six seasons with the Miami Heat, winning two championships alongside Lebron James and Dwayne Wade.
The Miami native also played for the Phoenix Suns from 2005–2007 before joining the front office as vice president of basketball operations in 2017. He has made a few big moves since becoming general manager in 2019, helping the Suns make the Finals in 2021.
Last year, Jones helped land Kevin Durant at the trade deadline.
