Injury Analyst Explains What Miami Heat's Bam Adebayo Must Play Through Tonight In Game 5 Against Milwaukee Bucks

In this story:
Hamstring injuries are among the most frequent in the NBA.
They happen so often they are considered just part of the game. But not many are aware of what players must go through while dealing with an injury that can lead to long-term absence if aggravated.
I caught up with Jeff Stotts of InStreetClothers.com, a website devoted to analyzing sports injuries, to see how a hamstring strain will affect Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo tonight in Game 5 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
"The hamstring is a group of muscles that play a key role in running and acceleration and deceleration," Stotts said. "They slow the leg as it extends back and initiate hip motion from a standstill position. For a guy like Adebayo, the hamstring is going to be highly stressed while playing one-on-one defense, transitioning back the opposite way, and on dunk attempts."
While the Heat are listing Adebayo as probable, they have to be careful. An aggravation could lead to more missed time. That's why Adebayo has received treatment three to four times a day the past week as a preventive measure.
"Once a hamstring strain occurs the individual can be functionally limited all while entering a precarious healing cycle that can easily lead to a nagging or chronic injury," Stotts said.
