Jaylen Brown’s Performance Against The Miami Heat Have Some Questioning His Contract

In this story:
Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown signed a five-year, $304 million contract, his agent told ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.
It is the largest deal in league history, taking many by surprise considering his most recent performances. Brown was scrutinized after his lackluster conference finals against the Miami Heat, where he averaged 19 points on 16 percent shooting from three-point range.

Richest deal in NBA history for an option B… sounds smart

His deal exceeds Jayson Tatum’s, whom many believe to be the face of the Celtics. It would be like if the Heat signed Bam Adebayo to a bigger deal than Jimmy Butler. Brown had his moments, especially in the 2022 Finals. However, the general consensus is that Tatum is still Boston’s best player. This narrative was only further justified when Brown struggled in Game 7 against the Heat while Tatum was injured.

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith believes this only means a bigger extension for Tatum. On a Tuesday morning segment of First Take, Smith said, “The first thing I thought about when I saw that deal is ‘Lord have mercy, what is Jayson Tatum gonna get? Because Jaylen Brown, for all that he is, the one thing he is not is the best player on the Boston Celtics.”
This shuts down the rumors of Brown departing Boston, meaning the tandem of him and Tatum is still here for at least a few seasons. This means the Heat will likely see more postseason battles with the Celtics in the foreseeable future.
