Charlotte Hornets Reach "Agreement" with Former NCAA Tournament Star

In this story:
The Charlotte Hornets have come reached an agreement with free agent guard R.J. Hunter according to Chris Haynes. The contract is a one-year non guaranteed deal according to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer. Hunter is a 6'5 shooting specialist who is best known for leading 14th seed Georgia State past 3rd seed Baylor in 2015. Hunter hit a game winning three which famously resulted Hunter's Dad (The coach) falling off his stool and became a memorable viral moment.

Hunter was drafted 28th overall in the 2015 draft by the Boston Celtics. However, he only lasted a single year in Boston before being traded to Houston, then Chicago before ending up in Boston. Hunter struggled to establish himself in an NBA rotation and played mostly in the G-League until falling out the NBA in 2019. Hunter spent two years in Turkey with Turk Telekom and Galatasary before signing in the NBL with the Sydney Kings. In January 2022 he tore his left Patella Tendon which Hunter has been rehabbing since.

It's unclear the nature of Hunter's contract at this stage but it is likely on a non-guaranteed deal or strictly a training camp invite. In recent years there has been a growing trend of training camp attendees going on and signing with the team's G-league team, this could be the case here.
