Jazz Mock Draft Roundup: Experts Predict Pick 9

In this story:
Utah Jazz fans are starting to get a clearer picture of what lies ahead in the 2023 NBA draft. With their first selection, the Jazz have a 50.7% chance of picking at the No. 9 slot. Fans will get closure on that front when the NBA lottery takes place on May 16.
Despite not knowing the exact spot, the Jazz brain trust has been preparing for this year's draft for quite some time. GM Justin Zanik elaborated on the topic in his end-of-season press conference.
“We’ve been studying this draft this year and even in previous years to be prepared for this,” Zanik said. “We’re excited to get started on that. There’s always good players in the draft. We obviously have multiple picks this year. So it will be an exciting time. I’m excited to get to know these guys and see which ones can fit our culture and timeline moving forward.”
That being said, let’s take a look at who the latest national media outlets are mocking to the Jazz with the ninth selection.
Cason Wallace: The Ringer
Kris Dunn’s production gives the Jazz an idea of what their point guard position could look like with someone like Wallace, who is a defensive-oriented player with size, playmaking ability, and downhill creation. Gradey Dick: ESPN
The Jazz exceeded expectations this season, nearly landing a spot in the play-in tournament despite being forecasted to be among the NBA's worst teams in the preseason. With their frontcourt appearing well-stocked with Walker Kessler and Lauri Markkanen in the fold, adding perimeter talent could make a lot of sense, especially a big, dynamic shooting wing like Dick, who hit 40% of his 3-pointers last season and brings solid versatility with his toughness and strong feel for the game. — Jonathon Givony
Jarace Walker: CBS Sports
This feels like the absolute floor for Walker, one of the most physically ready prospects in this draft class. He plays with relentless energy on both ends and projects cleanly as a do-it-all power forward who can stretch the floor. — Kyle Boone
Anthony Black: USA Today
Black, who was named to the SEC All-Freshman team, averaged 12.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals. He led the conference in minutes (34.9) and was the only player to rank inside the top 25 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and blocks (22). He showed promise as a cutter with his off-ball movement and was also a standout on defense with his length and quickness. Black will need to improve as a shooter and bulk up some to endure the physicality at the next level but should still be a high pick. — Cody Taylor
