NBA Draft Lottery: Jazz Fall Short of Number One, Selecting at 9th Overall

In this story:
Despite entering the night with some high hopes to secure the services of Victor Wembanyama, the Utah Jazz fell a bit short as they will officially be selecting 9th overall in this year’s NBA Draft. Instead of getting the opportunity of picking among the most highly-touted prospects, the Jazz instead will be looking for more impactful talent down the board.
Instead, the San Antonio Spurs stole the show by jumping up to the number one overall pick. Here’s how the board ended up falling entirely.
- San Antonio Spurs
- Charlotte Hornets
- Portland Trail Blazers
- Houston Rockets
- Detroit Pistons
- Orlando Magic
- Indiana Pacers
- Washington Wizards
- Utah Jazz
- Dallas Mavericks
- Orlando Magic (via CHI)
- Oklahoma City Thunder
- Toronto Raptors
- New Orleans Pelicans
The 9th pick will be one of the Jazz’s three picks in the first round, with the remaining picks later in the draft at 16 and 27. This year marks the first time the Jazz will be taking a player in the lottery since 2017’s trade-up of Donovan Mitchell.
The Jazz will now have just over a month to scout who they’ll want to take at 9. In a crucial draft just one year removed from trading the franchise’s best players, the front office will have a lot on their hands come June 22nd’s NBA Draft.
