Report: Hawks 'Zeroing In' on Ex-Jazz Coach Quin Snyder

In this story:
It appears ex-Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder’s absence from the NBA could be short-lived. According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Atlanta Hawks are “zeroing” in on a potential Snyder hiring.
"The Hawks are zeroing in on the potential hiring of Quin Snyder as their new head coach, sources tell me," Charania said. "Atlanta and the former Jazz coach have started formal discussions, including a virtual meeting on Wednesday, I'm told, and the sides could meet again in the near future. I'm told a major factor in the pursuit of Snyder is his ability to be a culture-starter and his ability to enhance the culture in Atlanta, including holding players accountable, from Trae Young on down."

Snyder would be going back to a place of familiarity. The former Jazz head coach was an assistant in Atlanta in 2013-14 under Mike Budenholzer before being hired by the Larry H. Miller group where he coached the Jazz from 2014-22. During his tenure with Utah, Snyder boasted a 372-264 record and made the playoffs from 2017-2022.
Snyder would replace Nate McMillan, who was released from his coaching duties on Wednesday. It’s been a rocky road for McMillian due to the friction with All-Star point guard Trae Young and what’s rumored to be a fractured locker room. Snyder has experience in those matters, and time would tell whether he’d be able to get Atlanta back on track.
The Hawks are currently 29-30 and would be in the play-in game if the season were to end today. Expectations haven’t been met, with Atlanta going all in on the trade that brought Dejounte Murray over from the San Antonio Spurs. That being said, there's still enough time to turn the ship around with 23 games left to play and talent up and down the roster.
If Snyder does get hired, Jazz fans will have to wait until next year to see their former leader. Utah has already faced the Hawks this year, splitting the two-game set 1-1.
