Jazz Set to Host Sunday Games in Utah for First Time in Over 20 Years

In this story:
The Utah Jazz are looking to make a shift in their schedule during the 2023-24 NBA season. In what might be a little-known fact for some, the last time the Jazz played a game at home on a Sunday was 22 years ago. For reference, these were during the days Karl Malone and John Stockton were still on the court. It’s safe to say it’s been a long time without Sunday Jazz basketball.
That impressive streak ends this November, as the new NBA schedule pins the Jazz in at three home games throughout next season. It’s been a long-standing tradition for the Jazz to opt out of playing in Utah on Sunday due to the state's outstanding Christian resident's observance of the Sabbath day.
Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune reports the logistics behind the decision for the Jazz to play on Sundays once again this season:
"But this year, with schedule pressures higher than ever thanks to a week-delayed start and the new In-Season Tournament, the NBA mandated that teams submit at least four open Sunday home slots to the league. The Jazz did so, and ended up with three home games on Nov. 19 against Phoenix, Feb. 4 against Milwaukee, and Feb. 25 against San Antonio. Those games will start at 6 p.m. MT."
After what was a long-winded lack of Sunday Jazz home games across the past 20 years, that streak now looks to come to a close this year. Set for three Sunday games across the upcoming season, fans in Utah can look forward to seeing their team play in the state on three more weekends.
With the drop of the NBA schedule out of the way, Jazz fans now inch closer and closer to the new season to see this exciting team get on the floor.
