This Insane Nikola Jokic Triple-Double Stat Makes the Jazz Look Bad

In this story:
Nikola Jokic has been nothing short of stellar during his 2023 postseason run. We’ve seen this first-hand through each series the Denver Nuggets have been a part of up to this point, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Through his thirteen games up to this point, he’s posted absurd averages of 30.4 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 10.8 assists. This is absolutely unseen production, especially from a 7-foot center like Nikola.
This play is especially unseen for a franchise such as the Utah Jazz, who don’t tend to see the triple-double posted in their favor very often. In fact, the last time a Jazz player has had a triple-double was all the way back in 2018, when Ricky Rubio put up 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Clearly, it seems as if the Jazz have been amongst the most anti-stat-padders in the entire league.
If you look in terms of the almost 50-year history of the team, it doesn’t get much better. To find the team’s all-time leader in triple-doubles, you have to turn the clock all the way back to the Pete Maravich days. It was during then when we saw “Pistol” Pete put up a total of seven through his entire career with the team, only adding to his historic franchise legacy. Taking nothing away from Maravich, but 7 total triple-doubles being the all-time record for a storied team like the Jazz is a little discouraging.
This is when we saw team insider, Ben Anderson of KSL Sports note how big the gap has been between Nikola Jokic’s production has been compared to the entire history of the Jazz in a tweet on Thursday night:
Nikola Jokic has 7 triple-doubles so far in the 2023 playoffs.

“Pistol” Pete Maravich is the all-time New Orleans/Utah Jazz franchise leader in triple-doubles with… 7.
The franchise was founded in 1974.
Let's also keep in mind that Jokic has four games at the absolute minimum to add to this total. All signs point to Nikola's short string of playoff triple-doubles exceeding that of the Jazz’s team history. While it comes across as somewhat belittling to the franchise entirely, the greatness of Jokic is what really should be at front and center. We’re witnessing some of the very best playoff performances in league history; Nikola has earned all the credit he gets.
As for Utah, we can only hope this record can be broken in the near future. With a collection of exciting, up-and-coming players, along with the significant draft capital the team has locked up for the near future, the Jazz are in a good spot at this point.
