In this story:

If there’s one thing the Utah Jazz have prioritized and successfully done across the past 18 months, it’s preparing heavily for their future. Trading away All-Star G Donovan Mitchell and C Rudy Gobert last summer allowed the franchise to take a step back and reset the roster, looking ahead a few years at an improved chance to compete for an NBA championship.

Now fortified with twelve first-round picks across the next six drafts, Utah is loaded with assets to make a big move. When the time comes for the next unhappy superstar to hit the trade market, Danny Ainge and the Jazz will be one of the first to lineup with a tantalizing package to offer.

The time for those coveted stars to hit the market may end up being sooner rather than later. In a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, some “massive talents” could be available for trade as soon as the 2024 NBA offseason:

While Woj left us in a guessing game in terms of who may soon end up being available, it’s not a massive shock to hear there may be some shuffling within the league’s top players. Philadelphia 76ers C Joel Embiid and Dallas Mavericks G Luka Doncic have been broadly whispered as some prospective options if things continue to go awry with their current franchises, with more guys likely in the cards.

For the Jazz, their forecast for the potential league fire sale couldn’t be looking better. Stacked with five promising first-rounders across their two most recent drafts, with an already respectable core of players, Utah is an extremely ideal location to send any star hopeful for a new situation.

It effectively makes the objective for this team much easier for the upcoming NBA season: play out the year, see how each player fits and performs, re-evaluate the roster after the season, and then examine which All-Stars would be open and the best candidate for an acquisition.

Utah would not be uncontested in efforts to add a potential star to the roster, with opposing teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder holding similar assets and ideas in the team-building process. However, that may not be as much of a concern as once thought if Woj’s report of multiple talents available comes to fruition. Even if Sam Presti and OKC opt to make their splash, there may be plentiful options on the trade market up for grabs for the Jazz to follow up with.

With potential heaps of player movement in the near future, the Jazz are bound to be in the prime position to execute. Until then, Utah can continue to build its young and promising core in their attempt to exceed initial expectations once again.
