Kings’ Davion Mitchell Showing Major Improvements in Off-Season Workouts

In this story:
This time of the NBA off-season is when we see players showing off their ability in pickup games, and we are reminded just how good NBA players are. As NBA fans count down the days until the 2023-24 season starts, players stay in the gym getting ready.
Sacramento Kings backup point guard Davion Mitchell showed off his skills in one of these NBA pickup games. After posting the highlights to X (formerly known as Twitter), Kings fans got excited about the improvements the 24-year-old guard is making.
The most important thing is you must put everybody on notice that you’re here and you are for real." pic.twitter.com/QjwYgdK7as

Davion Mitchell is seen scoring with ease against his NBA peers while playing alongside Kings starters Harrison Barnes and Kevin Huerter.
After getting selected 9th overall by the Kings in the 2021 NBA Draft, Mitchell had an impressive rookie season, filling in for an injured De'Aaron Fox for some of the season. Heading into his sophomore season, there were big expectations for the young guard, but his minutes decreased, and he found himself in a lesser role.
Davion "Off-Night" Mitchell has predominantly been a defensive specialist, as he is respected across the league as an elite lock-down defender. But he is looking to become more than a defensive specialist.
Earlier this off-season, Mitchell told reporters he would spend his summer working on his jump shot with Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry's longtime shooting coach.
Tapped in with @SacramentoKings Davion Mitchell at @NBASummerLeague. He told me he’s locked 🔒 in on improving his jumper. Coast 2 coast in lab this summer with Brandon Payne (Steph Curry’s shooting guru) reppin it out. Always got the pill under his arm. 💪🏽His hoodie game dope✊🏽 pic.twitter.com/F3gmxQ0IUn

Davion Mitchell seems to be making offensive strides based on the highlight reel he posted, and that was while playing pickup games in sweatpants. Mitchell becoming a consistent bucket-getter off the bench for Sacramento could take them to the next level next season and make the backup backcourt of Mitchell and Malik Monk even deadlier.
If Mitchell continues to improve on offense, he will become a premier two-way talent and is certainly a guy the Kings want to hold on to.
