Robert Horry Floats Fascinating Lakers Partnership for Jeanie Buss

In this story:
The Los Angeles Lakers are going through a second regime change in 14 months, with majority owner Mark Walter agreeing to sell his stake to Bob Iger and Josh Kushner.
Along with Walter looking for the door after a record-setting $12.5 billion sale, the Buss family wants to sell its 17.8 percent stake in the team, even though Jeanie Buss is pushing back on the deal, preferring to remain the Lakers’ governor.
Things have gotten pretty ugly between Jeanie Buss and her five siblings, which may take some time to play out. Jeanie, however, is open to buying out her siblings’ stake in the team.
Robert Horry: Jeanie Buss Should Team Up With Vanessa Bryant
With Jeanie Buss trying to stay team governor and remain with the franchise moving forward, seven-time NBA champion Robert Horry came up with an interesting idea for her to make it happen, which Lakers fans would likely be all in on.
Horry suggested on his Big Shot Bob podcast that Jeanie team up with Kobe Bryant’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, to buy out her siblings’ remaining shares so she can remain governor and remain part of the organization with Iger and Kushner.
“She can put so many people together,” Horry said of Jeanie Buss. “You know the first person I would go to if I’m her? Vanessa Bryant. You think about those two powerful women on the Lakers. … To me, that would be so cool for the two to partner up and take over that 17.5 percent.”
Horry, who won three titles playing for the Lakers while playing alongside Kobe Bryant, might be on to something here. Obviously, more people with deep pockets would need to be involved, but the appeal of Jeanie Buss and Vanessa Bryant teaming up for this would definitely turn a lot of heads and potentially draw the attention needed to make it happen.
It’ll be interesting to see what Jeanie Buss does from here on out to remain involved with the organization her family has been part of since 1979 and to stay in the role of Lakers governor.
In the meantime, the Luka Doncic-led Lakers are in Slovenia for a minicamp put on by the superstar guard, with the new-look roster looking to spark some much-needed chemistry ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, which gets underway on Oct. 21 against Stephen Curry and the visiting Golden State Warriors.
