Dallas Mavs Ex Vince Carter Elected to Basketball Hall of Fame

Former Dallas Mavericks player and fan favorite Vince Carter has officially been elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. DallasBasketball.com takes a look back at his greatest moment as a Maverick.

Less than a year after franchise legend Dirk Nowitzki was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, another former Dallas Mavericks player is on his way to joining him this summer.

According to a report from The Athletic's Shams Charania, former Mavs fan favorite Vince Carter, along with Chauncy Billups, have been elected to the Hall of Fame. Charania notes that the official announcement will be made at the Final Four on Saturday.

Although Carter was past his superstar days when he played in Dallas from 2011-2014, he endeared himself to Mavs fans everywhere with his 'motorcyle revving' celebration after dunks, and more importantly, his electric buzzer-beating 3-pointer to defeat the No. 1 seed San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the 2014 first-round series.

The No. 8 seed Mavs went on to lose that series to the Spurs in seven games after taking a surprising 2-1 lead with Carter's Game 3 heroics. After the 2011 championship run, Nowitzki's twilight years didn't see much postseason success, but Carter gave the fan base a memory that will never be forgotten.

During his three seasons with the Mavs, Carter averaged 12.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 25.1 minutes per game while shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from deep.

During his prime superstar years with the Toronto Raptors and New Jersey Nets, Carter racked up eight All-Star selections and two All-NBA selections. Now, Carter will join his former Mavs teammate Nowitzki in the Hall of Fame, where his legacy will be cemented forever.
