NBA Free Agency Rumor: Mavs' Kyrie Irving Meeting with Rockets?

Just one day before NBA free agency opens, rumors are starting to pick up steam, especially when it comes to Dallas Mavericks star point guard Kyrie Irving.

According to a report from Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, Irving will meet with the Mavs, as well as the Phoenix Suns, when free agency begins. Haynes also mentions that there could be other teams Irving meets with as well, including Mavs' I-45 rival Houston Rockets.

"The Houston Rockets could seek a meeting as well, according to sources," Haynes wrote.

In the report, it is stated that all of Irving's meetings will take place in Los Angeles, and the Mavs are still "considered the favorites" to re-sign him. Given where the Rockets currently are in their rebuilding phase, and given that Irving wants to compete for another championship, it's hard for us to see Houston being a legitimate option for him.

Now, given that there has been a lack of suitors for Irving leading into free agency, many of the rumors that surface in the next 24 hours are likely more of a leverage attempt on Irving's part than anything else. However, it would be unwise to try to predict Irving's next move given his track record. We'll find out soon which route he chooses to go.
