Hawks Ex Coach Nate McMillan 'Politely Declined' Mavs Assistant Job Offer

With three openings on the Dallas Mavericks’ coaching staff, Jason Kidd has failed to make any hires so far this offseason, including attempting to bring in veteran coach Nate McMillan.

As the Dallas Mavericks navigate through this important offseason, there aren't just holes on their roster, but on Jason Kidd's coaching staff, as well.

On Friday, Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes reported that the Maverick attempted to add former Hawks head coach Nate McMillan to Kidd's coaching staff, yet McMillan 'politely declined.’

"Former Atlanta Hawks head coach Nate McMillan is taking at least a year off from coaching, as he politely declined the opportunity to join the Dallas Mavericks' coaching staff to spend time with family, league sources tell B/R,” Haynes wrote.

Kidd and the Mavericks have been on the hunt to fill the vacancies on their coaching staff, specifically looking to add veteran coaches who have head coaching experience. Dallas has reportedly shown interest in Jeff Hornacek and Jeff Van Gundy. But for whatever reason, whether that be lack of relationships or attractiveness in the job, Kidd has struggled to add to his staff.

Since the end of the regular season, the Mavs have had three spots on Kidd's coaching staff open up, including Greg St. Jean's dismissal, Quinton Crawford opting to join Frank Vogel's staff in Phoenix, and shooting coach Peter Patton leaving after a five-year sting in Dallas to become the director of player development for the Chicago Bulls.

While most coaching staffs are filling up, Kidd and the Mavericks may need to scramble to fill the opening spots on the bench as this crazy offseason progresses.
