Notes On A Scandal: Mavs Cuban With Advice For Washington’s Snyder

DALLAS - If you’re a fan of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks fan reflecting on the sexual harassment scandal unfolding from inside the NFL’s Washington franchise, you are likely experiencing an uncomfortable deja vu.
Mavs owner Mark Cuban is right there with you.
“If you know (Washington owner) Dan Snyder, if you’re involved with the Redskins, if you connect to them, tell Dan and tell his senior management you’ve got to just recognize what you did right and what you did wrong,” Cuban said. “You have to accept the mistakes you made. That’s painful. I made a lot of mistakes. And that’s the only way this is going to get resolved.”
He is speaking from experience, with Sports Illustrated publishing a February 2018 report detailing allegations of sexual harassment in the business wing of the Mavs organization.
Cuban issued the remarks on Thursday during his “Ask Me Anything” show on Sirius XM.
“Literally, I started crying,” Cuban said, recalling the moment he was informed of the coming SI expose. “I was so upset.”
Cuban took responsibility for the unfortunate environment and the NBA believes Cuban and the Mavs have taken great strides to repair the problems.
The Washington Post’s expose will surely create the same demands of the NFL franchise, already mired in controversy that is causing a mascot change. This new report alleges a culture of sexual harassment by members of owner Snyder’s inner circle.
Snyder released a statement Friday promising a commitment to “setting a new culture” in Washington.
That’s a challenging but necessary task. Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks know that all too well.
