NBA Rumors: Mavs Have 'Looked For Ways' to Trade JaVale McGee

In this story:
Ahead of Thursday's trade deadline, the Dallas Mavericks have already been busy and look to continue making moves.
On Sunday, the Mavs acquired eight-time All-Star Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris, which sent Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected 2029 first-round pick, and two future second-rounders to the Brooklyn Nets.
Following trading for Irving, Nico Harrison and the Mavs seem to still be on the phones looking for more ways to upgrade the roster alongside Luka Doncic and Irving.
Reported by Yahoo! Sports' Jake Fischer, the Mavericks have 'looked for ways' to trade veteran center JaVale McGee.
Dallas has looked for ways to move JaVale McGee ahead of the deadline, sources said, after signing the rim protector to a three-year, $17 million contract this summer. The Mavericks initially planned to start McGee for this 2022-23 campaign, but the journeyman shot blocker has since fallen out of head coach Jason Kidd’s rotation.
McGee's reunion with the Mavericks has not gone as planned, to say the least. After initially being Dallas' starting center going into this season, McGee's play – or lack thereof – has been a major disappointment for both the franchise and its fans.
In 31 games this season, McGee is averaging just 3.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, while earning 19 DNP-CD's.
Moving McGee might be tough with two years remaining on his contract after this season, which will likely force the Mavericks to attach something more attractive to opposing teams in the deal to get the 15-year veteran off their books.
